Human Rights Specialist
Current• Collects, collates and verifies reports on human rights violations from OHCHR’s field monitors to the United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) in the context of the Tigray conflict in Ethiopia; contributing to situational awareness by producing accurate and timely reports and analysis that inform decision-making and planning by OHCHR’s senior leadership.• Monitors, analyzes and reports on human rights and humanitarian developments in the context of politics, conflict, humanitarian crisis and emergency in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Tanzania; responsible for the implementation, follow-up and strengthening of protection mechanisms and the mainstreaming of human rights.• Develops strategies, tools, methodologies and training materials as well as collects and analyses human rights data and the implications of Hate Speech across the Greater East and Horn of Africa region, including their gender-specific data and indicators. • Serves as the focal point for the Hate Speech Program under the Global Drive Fund, promoting and protecting the safety of journalists and their fundamental rights as well as strengthening preventive measures to counter hate speech narratives.• Plans and coordinates activities related to OHCHR’s engagement and technical assistance at the regional level to integrate human rights in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in UN and relevant stakeholders programming, monitoring, reporting, advocacy and accountability at the national, regional and global levels, including from a gender perspective.• Prepares, drafts and contributes to the preparation of regional reports including those highlighting the human rights situation on the ground, the Joint Regional Analysis report for the OSESG-HoA and other reports to inform regional leadership on issues related to safeguarding human rights and humanitarian principles.
