Industrial Placement Student - Organic Chemistry
Placement student in the ChemDev department investigating the formation of trace mutagenic impurities from the degradation of common reagents under process conditions. Utilising a combination of synthetic and analytical techniques, a robust, quantitative time-course high throughput protocol was developed to enable the rapid acquisition of kinetic data. • Initiated and contributed to meetings to present, update, and propose improvements to the project team, senior project leaders, office colleagues and departmental directors. • Supported brainstorm sessions to solve synthetic problems for several GSK assets. • Characterised degradation products and synthetic chemical markers with various combinations of 1D and 2D NMR; GC-MS(EI)/FID; and LC-MS/UV/CAD analytical techniques. • Trained and experienced in kinetic modelling and DoE using Reaction lab and DesignExpert11. • Reaction automation with MT EasySampler, MT EasyMax, Andrew Alliance P1000, and Biotage Isolera to aid in sample preparation, purification, and reaction programming. • During the COVID-19 lockdowns, I was reassigned to the Catalysis CoP. As a team we were responsible for generating an internal database documenting problems and and solutions to past scale-up catalytic reactions. The statements or opinions expressed on this profile are my own and do not necessarily represent those of GSK and/or its subsidiaries.
