Exotix Capital, now rebranded as Tellimer, was an emerging market stock and bond broker that recruited me to lead their newly founded Research, Analytics and Data business. I reported to the CEO and regularly briefed the board and financial sponsor. Research, product, editorial, marketing and subscription sales reported directly to me, and technology and public relations/media were indirect reports.- Transformed Exotix’s research activities into an integrated subscription offering, growing subscription revenue from zero.- Established Technology, Digital Marketing, Subscription Sales, and Product functions.#- Pivoted from analogue to digital.- Commercialised existing data assets.- Executed a strategic pivot from a standalone stock and bond brokerage to a platform with revenue relationships with the whole ecosystem.- Repositioned the sales process to serve the entire ecosystem.- Launched new subscription products to expand the customer base, including SaaS and consulting.- Rebranded the business from Exotix Capital to Tellimer (a portmanteau of “Intelligence” and “Emerging [Markets]”) to reflect the strategy transformation.- Launched digital marketing.- Directly engaged with clients to improve retention and acquisition and make the organisation more client-centric.- Implemented a data-driven approach to product development and client delivery, including an integrated data pipeline to drive predictive analytics.- Developed a network of best-in-class local research providers, brokers and independents, in emerging markets that complement in-house research and data, built this network to eight partners in the first six months, increased equity research coverage from 135 to ~500 stocks, and drove renewal rates with this expanded offering.
