In this role reporting to the CEO, I was responsible for growing and leading the global engineering team and defining and executing the company's operating and technical direction. Freelancer.com primarily connects small businesses and individuals from the western world with freelancers in the developing world, empowering entrepreneurs on both sides of the globe. Freelancer Limited listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2013 with a market capitalisation of over $1 billion. Freelancer's engineering team consists of 150+ staff across offices located in Australia (Sydney), Canada (Vancouver), United Kingdom (London), Philippines (Manila), and Argentina (Buenos Aires). My position focused on strategic leadership to enable the delivery of innovative mobile and web products, the continued adoption of cloud based technologies, agile development and workflow practices, the design and implementation of real-time systems, and Service Oriented Architecture and APIs.I also lecture on topics including software engineering, scalable infrastructure, and Agile development practices at the University of Sydney.

As an early member of the Freelancer.com team, I have held a number of roles and positions within the company. I led the New Verticals, Mobile, Messaging & Apps product groups at Freelancer, helping define the technical direction of the teams. As the head of the Financial Operations group I managed and supervised the various online payment systems that support the core freelancing marketplace. During this time I oversaw the growth of gross deposit volume from $40m to over $70m USD eqv, the addition of credit card processing and the adoption and definition of Freelancer's anti-fraud, PCI, KYC and AML processes and requirements.
