The Observership Program competitively selects emerging leaders to be paired with a non-profit Board for a 12-month period. Participants learn about fundamental principles and functions of non-profit Boards, governance priorities and fiscal processes. I was paired with the Board of the State Library Victoria. I attended Board meetings and meetings for the Advisory Committee on Public Libraries, as a non-voting member.

My role as Manager of Evaluation and Impact involves leading the organisation’s measurement, research and evaluation activities. I sit on the Program Leadership Team, and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation through building a culture of evidence-informed decision making. As Measurement, Evaluation and Research Adviser, I supported the Evaluation and Impact Manager to embed data collection and analysis into the work of all functions across the organisation.My primary focus was to drive an internal research agenda to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program delivery and evaluate impact. This required an understanding of business processed across the organisation, coupled with using evaluation methodologies and statistical analyses.

This role was a hybrid position that involved the attraction, selection and matriculation of high achieving graduates to the Teach For Australia program as described under ‘Senior Officer, Recruitment and Advocacy”. In addition, I led the collection of information on the performance of various recruitment activities and their impact; designing and implementing reporting mechanisms to efficiently and effectively monitor progress and hold the Recruitment function accountable to its goals; streamlining data collection processes for the Recruitment function; and informing continuous improvement and strategic decision making of the Recruitment function through data analyses (using Microsoft Excel and SPSS).

The EdFellows program, developed by The Centre for New Public Education (CNPE), and Teach for Australia (TFA), is designed for Australian educators who are excited by the opportunity to shape education policy. The Centre for New Public Education is an advocacy initiative of the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) dedicated to building a fairer education system for all young Australians, and TFA is an ambitious social movement working to confront educational disadvantage in Australia. These organisations are supported by a number of individuals and organisations that are contributing to EdFellows program by participating in the workshop, internship and capstone components of the program, including the Grattan Institute, Learning First, Education Changemakers and a number of members of parliament and Government departments.CNPE and TFA have works in partnership to launch EdFellows because they believe the work of educators should be at the heart of education policy reform to achieve a fairer education system where all young people have access to an excellent education. The EdFellows program supports fellows, a diverse group of educators from each sector of the Australian school system, to bridge the divide between education policy and practice to improve the outcomes of Australian students. The EdFellows program develops education policy understanding and practical policy and communication skills, while building professional networks and providing a platform from which to advocate for necessary policy changes to support student learning and achieve a more equitable education system.

Junior Science and VCE Biology teacher. Further, after my first year of teaching I was promoted to the Coordinator of the Science Faculty. This role involves the leadership and management of faculty members coupled with guiding the development of curriculum, pedagogy and student learning enrichment for students in Years 7 to 12.

Coordination of a staff team of approximately ten, promotional activities and financial responsibilities. As a manager it was also necessary to liaise with the business owners, kitchen staff and cafe patrons in order to maintain the general flow of this Melbourne hospitality establishment which can seat approximately 120 customers.

This position involved assisting the Allied Health team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Exercise Physiologist as required. This included independently taking lower-needs patients through rehabilitating exercises.
