Material Evolution has developed a groundbreaking geopolymer cement with a CO2 footprint that is 85% lower than ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The company’s one-part system is made with blends of solid alkaline activators and solid aluminosilicate precursors such as metakaolin, fly ash, slag, and other industrial waste streams. Unlike OPC this process does not require any heat – traditional cement is produced by burning limestone at very high temperatures to turn it into clinker, which is the main contributor to the high carbon footprint of OPC (~850-950kg per ton produced!).
