As one of the founding members of Gene Guru, I proactively took on many responsibilities to leverage my knowledge and experience from my undergraduate research studies and my time spent playing and training for college athletics. My primary role was to gather, read, and review scientific publications related to genetic variation and/or diet in order to develop an algorithm that would optimize a dietary plan for individual users of the company's proprietary product subscription.Due to the size of the start-up at the time I also took on the role of business development, client relationship management (B2B), and sales representative. This opportunity provided me with a chance to work in a different capacity than I ever had in the past which was very fulfilling. The combination of these two responsibilities lent well to each other for two reasons:1) Developing the reasoning framework for the algorithm ensured complete understanding of the product from the ground up, which allowed me to better explain each facet to potential buyers. 2) Hearing what type of data and features were desired from clients (personal trainers, doctors, therapist) allowed me to take this feedback directly to my research in order to build out new modules and functionality of our platform.

Participated in the research of Orthogonal P(V) Phosphorylation, specifically the Lewis acid catalyzed phosphorylation of alcohols with pyrophosphates. The purpose of this research was to study novel methodology of phosphorylating P(V), a ubiquitous mechanism that occurs in vitro with many prodrugs on the pharmaceutical market today. My work focused on the phosphorylation of an analogue of the immunomodulating drug Fingolimod (Novartis). Since this prodrug is a diol we investigated yields of mono- and di-phosphorylated product under different reaction conditions. The direction of the project was to gather information on the reactivity of diols to understand the factors that control selectivity and eventually develop a process where the use of a chiral lewis acid catalyst would provide asymmetric phosphorylation of the diol analogue.- Alumni/Parent Summer Research Fellowship, Dr. & Mrs. Christopher Cheney; Summer 2012. - Presented findings Holy Cross Summer Research Symposium 2012.- Poster at American Chemical Society National Meeting, New Orleans, LA, March 2013.- Presented Research finding to the Organic Chemistry department, Spring 2013.
