Tenured Professor (‘Professor Adjunto’) at the Department of Economics and the Center for Regional Development and Planning (Cedeplar) at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil, Senior Fellow of the Center for Spatial Data Science (University of Chicago, USA), and Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago (since 2020). I have a Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge and serve as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal Regional Studies, Regional Science (since 2023). I am also the lead developer of spreg/PySAL with Prof. Luc Anselin, a Python-based Spatial Analysis Library (since 2010) with over 1,000,000 downloads. My main field of research is spatial data analysis and spatial econometrics, working mainly with health equity and regional disparities.
