About Pedro Gil Arb Riba

Pedro Gil is an Architect, Director + Founder of Studio Gil, and an Architectural Academic.He graduated from the University of Brighton with a First Class degree in Architecture, winning a Faculty Award for Design Excellence. He then gained his Diploma in Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, London, under the tutelage of Professor Christine Hawley and Professor CJ Lim.After several years’ experience at large practices such as Aedas Studio and ORMS, Pedro founded Studio Gil (2008). Studio Gil’s projects are consistently published in acclaimed international architectural press. Since its foundation, the practice has been shortlisted as one of 3 finalists for the International Emirates Glass LEAF Young Architect of the Year Award (2009), Concrete House was shortlisted for RIBA London Awards (2014), 2[point]88 was longlisted for New London Architecture Don’t Move Improve Awards (2015), and the practice features in the highly acclaimed publication “New Architects 3: Britain’s Best Emerging Practices”(2016), a chronicle by the Architecture Foundation on the best practices established in the UK over the last decade.Pedro is actively involved in academia having taught Architecture at London South Bank University School of Architecture (Post-graduate Studio Leader), London Metropolitan University (Undergraduate Level 1 Design Studio Tutor, Professional Practices Level 1 + 2 Tutor), UCLan University of Central Lancashire (Undergraduate Level 1 Coordinator), The Bartlett UCL (Practice Tutor, Post-Graduate M.Arch Programme),University of Greenwich (Visiting Lecturer, Design Studio Tutor, Technical Module Tutor), University of Brighton School of Architecture (Senior Lecturer, Design Studio Tutor) and is currently at The Bartlett UCL (Senior Fellow, Design Realisation Coordinator, M.Arch Programme).Pedro has been a guest critic at several UK Schools of architecture.

Working on a listed building, the design called for a sensitive approach – the sensitivity reflected in the design retaining the existing façade adding a modern penthouse and interiors.
