My motivation is to be part of the solution in different projects addressing sanitation problems. Coming from a country with significant issues dealing with wastewater and solid waste, I have seen what these problems can cause to the population, environment, and ecosystems.My BSc is in Civil Engineering; during the thesis period in 2017, I designed and budgeted the drainage and a water supply system for a small village in the peripheral area of the City of Guatemala. Both of them were constructed two years after. This project has solved the sanitation problems in the area.Afterwards, I worked in a private company for four years, involved in designing, budgeting, and constructing sanitation projects (wastewater drainage systems, wastewater treatment plants, stormwater drainage systems, water treatment plants, and water supply systems) with a public budget. During this period of my working life, I honed my skills in managing projects, group work, communication with stakeholders, managing budgets, and how to deliver financial and progress reports.Then I came to The Netherlands for my MSc in Urban Water and Sanitation with specialisation in Sanitary Engineering. Here I improved my knowledge in conventional wastewater treatment, modelling urban drainage systems and wastewater treatment plants, resource recovery from wastewater, and solid waste management.Finally, during my internship in EAWAG-Switzerland, I worked on my MSc thesis research, developing a methodology to relate the effects of solid waste management with the performance of urban drainage systems. With the first-class mentorship in this institution and IHE Delft, I was able to validate this methodology in an existing drainage system in Guatemala, concluding that the methodology helps to simulate the accumulation of solid waste inside this infrastructures and what effects this can derive in the operation and maintenance of these systems.Nowadays, I am looking forward to find a job where I can apply all my knowledge gained in the previous years.
