Third Avenue is the first and oldest commercial district in the Bronx; serving the growing South Bronx community since 1988. We also acknowledge and work toward changing systems and structures that have long side lined our community. We work to implement equitable economic development tools that help our community thrive.As the Executive Director, I am tasked with overseeing and maintaining the 18 block-facing area of the second most heavily-trafficked commercial corridor in New York City, seeing over 200,000 visitors daily. This includes overseeing and implementing local economic development projects, fundraising, and liaising with local stakeholders and government to ensure that the Third Avenue BID is safe, clean, and a thriving economic HUB.Major accomplishments in my first year include:- Securing over $300,000 in funding- Facilitating the recruitment of new board members and stronger board engagement- Ending the fiscal year with a surplus, allowing the organization to build a reserve fund- Growing the staff size to meet ongoing needs, including establishing new internship partnerships- Securing a Neighborhood Support Team from the City of New York- Activating public spaces with a variety of community-driven events- Launching a small business video series- Securing new office space- Launching a monthly newsletter- Rebranding and updating the organization's website- Increasing the organization's social media presence and online engagement- Strengthening relationships with elected officials, city agencies, and local stakeholders

As Program Director, Strategic Partnerships, I oversee a team of approximately 10+ individuals, ensure the overall programmatic success of LIFT-New York by managing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure our service to Bronx families is as efficient and impactful as possible, and track key performance indicators for family outcomes in education, finance, and income. I also identify, cultivate, broker and execute partnerships with early childhood partners and community colleges.Major accomplishments- Leading and facilitating the process for refining the region's theory of change and intended impact through Bridgespan's 12-week Achieving Strategic Clarity program, which established the region's current focus on serving parents pursuing an education (student parents). - Overseeing the delivery of direct services to over 200 families, ensuring that over 85% progress in education, income, and/or personal finances. - Cultivating partnerships with local and national stakeholders, leading to over $100,000 in new funding to program activities. - Elevating community voices through webinars with stakeholders around topics such as the pandemic, digital equity, childcare, education, and career pathways. - Rebuilding and onboarding a team during a time of significant transition during a pandemic- Integrating liberatory practices in program activities to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion among staff and clients, which led to higher performance on both staff and client feedback surveys and paid opportunities for local community members. - Cultivating two new board members through our volunteer client-mentoring program.- Cultivating and facilitating a formal technical assistance partnership with higher educational institutions to improve coaching practices among college student advisors. - Serving on the Raising NY coalition to elevate policies that improve families' lives like the NY Child Poverty Reduction Act, NY Diaper Bill, and Empire Child Tax Credit.

Under the Commercial Programs Unit, strengthening and growing program partnerships through new and established contacts with city and state agencies, industry groups, associations, BIDs, chambers of commerce, and businesses. Leveraging such partnerships in order to promote and enhance Unit projects and to help develop robust and sustainable commercial programs. As a project and outreach leader, providing guidance, assisting in training, and overseeing project-specific tasks that are carried out by other Outreach Specialists and temporary staff.

Greater New York City Area

Under DSNY's Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability, Pedro educates businesses throughout New York City on the commercial recycling and organics rules. This outreach is conducted through training workshops, one-on-one meetings, site-visits, group presentations and partnership-building. Pedro also trains and manages a small group of City Corps Service members and summer interns who engage businesses through site-visits.Pedro has also been involved in certain aspects of program management such as making budget recommendations, analyzing and reporting on data collected from Fulcrum and a Microsoft Access database, crafting and redesigning program messaging, collaborating with agency leadership on legislation and enforcement considerations and hiring staff. In educating businesses, Pedro is not only helping entrepreneurs avoid violations, but also reduce commercial waste to landfills. Such efforts towards recycling save money and keep New York City healthy and clean.

Global Energy Efficiency Holdings, Inc. was a leading energy efficiency solutions provider, serving US and international customers. They provided a world-class comprehensive suite of energy efficiency products and solutions, focused on the installation and servicing of lighting, refrigeration equipment, and HVAC upgrades and retrofits to reduce energy consumption and provide cost savings. In my role as Procurement Specialist, I developed new business opportunities with a variety of government agencies, corporate clients and commercial/multifamily properties in an effort to reduce their energy consumption.

The Green Jobs Training Program provides training in job readiness, green cleaning, waste management and building maintenance to individuals. The overall goal of the program is to train and connect graduates to meaningful and sustainable careers. In addition to partnership-building and job development, Pedro also served as a career counselor, assisting graduates in finding opportunities that match their skills and goals.

NYC Business Solutions is a suite of free services offered by the Harlem Commonwealth Council on behalf of the New York City Department of Small Business Services. Pedro provided local businesses with assistance in financing, recruitment & training, accessing government incentives, certification, navigating government and business courses.

Pedro coordinated local marketing initiatives that helped grow the newspaper's revenue. He worked with a variety of businesses and institutions - including hospitals, restaurants, lawyers, universities, health & fitness studios, artists, banks and more.

Pedro was responsible for organizing all field operations in Washington Heights and East Harlem, as well as other pockets of Manhattan. This largely involved recruiting and training volunteers and strategic campaigning. Much of Pedro's activities involved organizing community events, visibility runs, canvassing, phone banking and street fairs. With a heavy focus on Latinx outreach, Pedro also translated campaign materials into Spanish (policy pieces, press releases, palm cards), facilitated Spanish media relations, and maintained a positive relationship with local leaders.
