Nimitz Elementary School

My first grade students come from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of language abilities, from beginning English Learners to fluent native speakers. I continue, as in the past, to provide differentiated instruction in all subject areas and English language support to all students in order to foster learning and progress. The needs of the first graders are met through collaboration with the first grade team together with the long hours spent daily in analyzing data, researching best practices, planning, and creating materials, with the purpose of implementing lessons that encourage student participation, creativity, teamwork, and independent responsibility.

My class of first grade students have recently arrived from countries all over the world. In addition to teaching them all of the skills first graders need to learn, I educate my students in speaking and communicating in English.
