Peter W. Haas is a graduate in electrical engineering of the University of Stuttgart. He has owned several faculty positions and served as a professor of electrical engineering at the Polytechnic of Esslingen. Mr. Haas has contributed the basic 140-Mbit/s IP communication infrastructure to the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg Science Network, BelWue, in 1988, as well as to hww, the first German national supercomputing center, in 1996. While on academic leave to IBM Global Services, Houston, he has implemented the port of HPSS for AIX to the Solaris operating system. Mr. Haas has served as a reviewer of the European Union Eurostore project. He also has completed work on a 6-MW power and cooling infrastructure building to support a contemporary Pflop/s HPC implementation at HLRS.Mr. Haas is an IEEE Life Member, cofounder of BelWue and HNF Europe and has initiated the HLRS/hww Workshop on Scalable Global Parallel File Systems as a forum for European collaboration. He is a lecturer at the University of Stuttgart for Fast and Precise Multi-Domain Physics Simulation.Current research projects include the analysis and optimization of parallel computer networking and I/O performance, advanced parallel clusters for the efficient execution of commercial multi-domain physics codes, security in storage, design of embedded Linux controllers, simulation of multi-field multi-domain physics systems including power and signal electronics, and semiconductor theory. The list of publications includes more than 100 papers.
