The service provides support and consultation to professionals as well as provides direct work with children, young people and their families who experience mental health challenges

To carry responsibility for the development, delivery and clinical governance of this highly specialist, 24-hour service to young people and families across the city of Edinburgh, including budgets, line management, clinical supervision and highly specialist care planning and clinical delivery. To sustain and demonstrate compliance of the service and of individual staff members with the standards and processes required to hold a license for the delivery of a MST service.

School matters provided parenting support for parents and looked after children at home who are struggling to attend school as well as to support team around the child

To carry a clinical caseload, providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment of young people with conduct problems and their families, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the framework of MST services license agreement. Clinical SupervisionTo conduct weekly group supervision for MST Team 2 to assure adherence to MST principles and MST analytic process. To be available to provide additional support and supervision for complex issues than may arise and provide clinical supervision on individual basis if necessary. Teaching and TrainingProvide direct clinical training to assure clinician competencies in all clinical areas relating to the implementation of MST interventions and will make good use of the MST quality assurance system to monitor skills and performance within the team.

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) supports young people aged 11-17 years who are presenting with severe challenging behaviours, including aggressive behaviour, absconding, non school attendance, substance misuse, offending. It is an:- Intensive and flexibly delivered;- Evidence-based and community-based intervention; and- Does what it takes to achieve meaningful change.Interventions are intensive and target change across the systems in which the young person is engaged to achieve change and improve outcomes for the young people and their families. To carry a small, complex caseload and work autonomously on referrals under the guidance of the Supervisor. Develop, implement and evaluate highly specialist plans and programmes of care for children, young people and their families, which will require regular adjustments. Undertake systemic assessment including individual psychological strengths/weaknesses, family functioning, (including family relationships and interaction patterns), school and community systems strengths/weakness and the detection of interactions between those systems. Integration of this information into a complex case conceptualization is required which will form the basis of a treatment plan. Select appropriate specialist therapeutic interventions (such as behaviour therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy and the pragmatic family therapies). Assess the strengths and needs of the family's larger social-ecological context. Undertake risk assessment and risk management of harm to self/others for individual clients and families and to provide advice to other professional colleagues.
