But this is not all, because there is passion involved ...I see it as my task to lift the collections to a higher level. For instance, in Teylers Museum often objects were described in the 19th century and those descriptions were pretty much only of use for the curators themselves. Descriptions formed almost always only ruff outlines (title, date, literature) and are - according to modern insights - sometimes erroneous. These descriptions were - without additions or changes - put into the computer at the end of the 20th century, which is not easy to translate into a 21st century internet environment. It is a great challenge to supplement and streamline the object descriptions in such a way that also the general public on the internet receives enough information to be able to find an object and to learn about it. So, information on an object is not longer only known by a museum curator or a researcher. In other words: I make a translation from brain to computer, in which I try to add all gained knowledge to the objects in separate records.Research into provenance is also sparkling with life. Many coins and medals can be traced to the moment when they have entered the museum. More and more objects are re-linked to their provenance, which sometimes leads to surprises. For example, part of the collection of Pieter Teyler van der Hulst (1702-1778), founder of the museum, has been traced.
