Dr. Peng Wang is Chair Professor and Founding Director of Institute of Carbon Neutrality and Green Development at Sun Yat-sen University, China, and serves as Executive Editor of Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T). Professor Wang is broadly interested in global sustainability, water security and water-energy-agriculture-environment nexus: (sea)water desalination, wastewater treatment and reclamation, recovery of resources with strategic importance, atmospheric water harvesting, membrane-based separation, clean and renewable energy, vertical farming, low-carbon technologies, effective cooling, among others. His reseach has generated more than 140 peer-reviewed publications on top journals. He has published/edited three academic books. He joined KAUST in 2009 as a founding faculty member and was the chair of Environmental Science & Engineering program at KAUST from 2013 to 2017. He spent almost four years at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (from Aug. 2019 to June 2023) while on a no-pay leave from KAUST. He joined Sun Yat-sen University on July 1st of 2023.Professor Wang is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). He received The Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Water Award in the category of ‘Distinguished Researcher’ in 2023, ‘Zijin Quanxing Distinguished Alumni Award’ from Nanjing University (南京大学紫金全兴杰出校友奖) in 2021, the 9th Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) in 2020 and Nanova Frontier Research Award from the Chinese-American Professors in Environmental Engineering and Science (CAPEES) in 2020. He is Advisory Board Member of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Prince Sultan University (Saudi Arabia). He served as Board July of Gloabl Prize for Innovation in Desalination (GPID) 2024 (https://gpid.net/) and Advisory Committee on Water Supplies at Hong Kong (2022-2024) (https://www.wsd.gov.hk/acws/en).Dr. Wang obtained his Ph.D. from Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2008 under the supervision of Professor Arturo Keller (https://bren.ucsb.edu/people/arturo-keller). Professor Wang is a regular reviewer for Nature, Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials, Nature Energy, Nature Water, Nature Sustainability, Nature Review Materials, Joule, Nature Communications, Science Advances, major journals from ACS, RSC, Wiley, and Elsevier.
