Part-Time voluntary position, initially with a six month commitment, supporting Lee Strafford bring his vision to life of a Northern Powerhouse / Tech City in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield, with responsibility for developing the Sheffield strand of the Dot Forge Accelerator Models. Helped secure the £3.5 million investment for the Social Accelerator Fund, leading the second phase of business planning, business plan writing and coordinating partner agencies resource and contributions to the plan.I led the development of early foundations of the Creative Accelerator, and the Hacker/Maker space, by integrating myself and Jonny Douglas Creative Accelerator and Hacker/Maker space plans into the wider Northern Powerhouse vision.
Managing Director / Founder
Direct Human Resources provided a total insourced and outsourced HR solution to SME's, boasting some of the regions fasting growing companies as clients. When I first conceived the idea of this business, great HR, Organisational Development, Training and Recruitment experiences was the privilege of Corporate Blue Chips. Start-ups and SME's were poorly served, and created an emerging market opportunity. There wasn't a sophisticated affordable Blue Chip quality solution - as I identified during my time as a Director at a VC backed start-up. So I created one - from my mind, making this elite service accessible and affordable.I developed and grew the business from cold start to High Growth potential. We were nominated for numerous awards, and moved from Bootstrapped start up to £250k loan investment in 12 months. At our peak our team was 15 strong, with £2.5 million secured contracts ranging from 1 - 5 year commitments. 80% of our income and 90% of our contracts derived from clients in the Sub Prime finance sector.Whilst preparing for 2nd round investment of £7.5 million the financial markets crashed, wiping out the Sub Prime Finance Market in the weeks that followed. After an intense period of several months of downsizing and refocusing on new target markets, the recession started to grip, our turnaround efforts were halted as we faced the reality of voluntary liquidation.

Hr Director
I was hired as part of the new Leadership Team to transform Bright Finance from Entrepreneurial start-up success of circa 50 employees, to a 500 employee business 'fit enough to do business with big business' whilst maintaining it's entrepreneurial DNA.We became a multi award winning Sheffield success story, culminating in sweeping awards at the European Contact Centre Awards, including Contact Centre of the Year, and Best Team Leader, and was runner up in the nominated by employees Business Leader of the Year award.
Head Of Hr / Acting Operations Director
I was appointed as an interim consultant to implement HR into a business that what formed out of various departments of the previous Midland Mainline sales and customer service teams, with a view to future divestment of the business. My role was to create an engaged workforce, reform resource planning, implement new HR policy and procedure, negotiating out legacy policy from 'the good old British Rail days'. Through implementing team work and TQM principles, we dramatically improved the financial performance and operating culture within the business, reducing staff turnover and removing legacy layers of bureaucracy. Qjump became a successful and vibrant business, that later merged with Virgin Group becoming TheTrainline, com. My role was to manage MbSA, in particular the asset transfer of staff and following site closure in a complex TUPE transfer to outsourced partners of Virgin, during which time I was also appointed as Acting Operations Director whilst a suitable interim candidate was sourced. We successfully merged the business into TheTrainline.com, whilst providing outplacement support to our employees, successfully facilitating re-employment in the local area for c480 of c500 staff.
Independent Hr Consultant
Working as an independent consultant, I worked with the outsourced packaging division of Gillette, specifically for the Mac III packing plant. There was a serious, and well publicised supply chain issue in relation to success (and lack of availability) of Mac III refills. My role was to solve the problem through supporting the Leadership Team, by creating a strategy for reorganisation and culture change. I implemented a team based structure, performance management programme and TQM & Continuous Improvement Programmes. We succeeded, and now you all have Mac III refills on demand. You're welcome.
Organisational Development Director
Working under the leadership of Errol Damelin, I was appointed onto the Co-Founding team at early stage of start-up. We were the worlds first Supply Chain Portal, initially targeting the global Cable manufacturing industry. Internally, my role was to build a high performance culture, provide all the relevant contracts and handbooks to support the planned rapid growth of the business, and deliver high volume recruitment in a competitive and small talent pool. My secondary role was to develop the cable industry HR & recruitment portal. The well documented 'dotcom' bubble burst, and as sources of second round (and strategically crucial) funding became scarce and investors even more cautious, a survival plan was adopted, it made sense for my function to be cut. The survival strategy proved effective, as Cablenet went on to become the very successful Supply Chain Connect.
Interim Head Of Training And Development
Hired to design and implement a core training and development programme to coincide with a significant change with the regulatory framework governing investment banking, which was the merger of IMRO and SFA into the newly formed FSA (Financial Services Authority). Changes in the regulatory framework gave BGI the opportunity to implement Advanced Leadership,Teamwork and Continuous Improvement principles into a traditional top down driven culture. My tenure was split between London and San Francisco, 3 months at each. The programme became industry acclaimed and widely respected, with special commendations from both the BGI and FSA leadership team, resulting in my being nominated for permanent position and fast tracked to Principle status.
Head Of Training And Organisational Development
The European cable industry was over capacity, there were 35 factories and wire mills in Europe, with a demand for only 18. This led to an unprecedented rationalisation of an industry in a strategic alliance with competitors BICC and Pirelli.I was hired to support Delta Cables PLC in delivering their part in the rationalisation programme, leading the culture change strand of the project. My role was to develop a team based culture as part of the restructure and design and implement a supporting company wide development programme and a continuous improvement programme, across several factories at multiple UK locations affecting several thousand employees, involving one wire mill and two factory closures, in a multi unionised environment. We achieved our goals, including delivering £1million bottom line saving derived solely from our employees participating in the Continuous Improvement Programme, with zero industrial action as a result of working in partnership with the unions, prior to merging with Draka Cables.
Training And Continuous Improvement Manager
I joined Yardley as a Systems Analyst, and was promoted to HR to be trained to assist the implementation of a change programme, a total restructure, moving to a team based environment, supported by the implementation of training and continuous improvement programme. After 6 months of intensive training and supporting implementation by the retained management consultants, I was promoted to Training and Continuous Improvement Manager, reporting directly to the Factory General Manager, generating record breaking improvements to attendance, operational efficiency and productivity, and implemented a sales and operations planning process delivering unprecedented internal supply chain improvements and forecasting accuracy. In addition, working with the Head of Training at TGWU, Pete Batten, we co developed the partnership working model which later became a universally practiced model in the HR and Trade Union toolkit across industry in the UK.
