Incorporated by Royal Charter, The Engineering Council (EngC) regulates the UK engineering profession. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and is advised by a number of executive committees. The Board sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards for the UK engineering profession, found in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) and the Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech) Standard.

Nominated as Panel Chair – June 2024EngC sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards of professional competence and ethics that govern the award and retention professional engineering registration. Through the IAP EngC engages with key international engineering bodies, ensuring that the UK standards for registration are globally recognised, facilitating the cross-border mobility of engineering professionals.

EngC is the UK member of the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) and holds the UK International Professional Engineer (IntPE) and the International Engineering Technologist (IntET) Registers. The IRC is an IAP sub-committee with the authority to operate the UK sections of the IntPE and IntET Registers.

EngC is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession and holds the national Registers of professional engineers and technicians. EngC allocates liaison officers to other licensed members, to act as a link between EngC and the licensed member, to encourage collaboration and sharing of good practice within the fields of professional registration and the accreditation of higher education programmes.

The Board is responsible for a range of activities, including the oversight of and adherence to the standards for entry to Society membership and Engineering Council (EngC) registration.This includes monitoring education and training within the aerospace profession, liaison with the EngC and other professional and learned bodies, developing professional development initiatives, handling appeals against grading or accreditation committee decisions, investigation of complaints against Society members, under the terms of the Society’s Code of Conduct, and liaison with the Membership Services Board on membership recruitment matters.The Board is also responsible for oversight of the Society’s involvement in skills, education and careers activities, including advising on the Society’s Schools Build a Plane project.I also sat on the Accreditation Committee, who review and accredit engineering degree programmes at Higher Education Institutes, both in the UK and internationally.
