Incorporated by Royal Charter, The Engineering Council (EngC) regulates the UK engineering profession. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and is advised by a number of executive committees. The Board sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards for the UK engineering profession, found in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering.

Through the IAP EngC engages with key international engineering bodies, ensuring that the UK standards for registration are globally recognised.

EngC is the UK member of the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) and holds the UK International Professional Engineer (IntPE) and the International Engineering Technologist (IntET) Registers. The IRC is an IAP sub-committee with the authority to operate the UK sections of the IntPE and IntET Registers.
