As a Program Manager at the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine I have many responsibilities, from planning the day to day operations of the husbandry team to being an active member on our campus decon team. My two passions are security of animal facilities and safety of the employees and animals. I fulfill my passions by being my departments Safety Officer and working closely with the Department of Safety for safety audits, policies and training. I am a member on our SOP and Policy committee and enjoy the process of wiring about and reviewing our practices. I have the great opportunity to help plan and develop training sessions and seminars for a wide range of individuals and topics. What Facility Manager’s day would be complete without maintenance plans, strategic plans and budgets!

As a Facility Supervisor at Duke University I had the opportunity to co-manage a robotics cage wash facility. The benefits for utilizing robotics when possible are overwhelming. I had many management responsibilities including training, attendance and payroll, supply maintenance, rounds and inspections as well as husbandry responsibilities in ABSL1 and ABSL2 facilities. While working at Duke University I had the opportunity of being trained to work in ABSL3 facilities.
