Colleagues describe her as "It gives me great pleasure to write this recommendation for Penny Downs, who I have known throughout most of her tenure at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School is an institution that prides itself on creating many initiatives some of which Penny has assumed a major role. Perhaps the first of these initiatives was with student portfolios. During this time, Penny worked diligently with students helping to create and complete various assignments needed to make portfolios an important reflection of students' work and a requirement for Graduation. A few years later, when Career Guidance/Employability Classes were first introduced at Blackstone Valley Tech to all School Counselors, Penny provided speakers and curriculum materials which have been important components to the Career Guidance/Employability curriculum. This program has received national recognition. In addition, Penny contacted college admissions officers in order to have an increasing number of on-the-spot admissions interviews/acceptances for our students. This resulted in an increasing number of students being accepted to colleges they may not have otherwise considered, if these college decision days had not been implemented. As a person, Penny is a positive presence at Blackstone Valley Tech and a valuable team player. Since her appointment as School Counselor, Penny has assumed other responsibilities such as Staff Advisor to both the Class of 2012 and to the Bible Club thereby increasing her visibility and accessibility to students. She has proven herself to be both a strong advocate for students and an important resource for staff. I am confident Penny will continue to dedicate herself towards finding new ways to address the needs of students, as she progresses in her career. It is for these reasons that I highly recommend Penny Downs."

Listed skills include Public Speaking, Community Outreach, Admissions, Teaching, and 9 others.
