As punishment, I was sent to figure out why the largest retailer on the African continent wasn't paying their bills. Like a Sherlock Holmes of ERP systems, I used my mind palace (aka Excel) to solve the mystery. I was intimidated when I had to explain their mistake to the notoriously feisty chairman of the group. He paid his bill. That project kicked off a wildly diverse and exciting career. Each project has led naturally to the next and provided me with experience working in trade marketing, IT analysis and management, process reengineering, executive coaching, programme management, organisational effectiveness and change consulting, communications management, and writing.
