Mr. Penrod is currently the CISO, Principal Engineer & Vice President for Transcend Networks, Inc.John has worked in Information Technology and Security for over 30 years, with over ten years focusing on the field of information security applied in 24x7x365 critical needs environment.John is a Gulf War veteran who served ten years with the United States Navy. Five years of his service were on the USS Forrestal, a US Navy Air Craft Carrier and one year spent working with Cuban refugees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. While in the Navy, John worked in many areas ranging from anti-submarine surveillance warfare and cryptology.After leaving the US Navy in 1997, John spent two years working at Equifax Risk Management as the Manager of Technical Operations. At Equifax Risk Management, John was directly responsible for the technical direction of a 2,000 person call center. This responsibility, included all technical architecture, disaster recovery, operations and IT security.From 1999 to 2008, John served in various progressing roles at The Weather Channel in Atlanta. From 2002 to 2008, John was directly responsible for the overall IT security posture of the company first serving as the Network Architect / Director of Network Architecture and then as their first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).In this role, John reported to the EVP, CIO of The Weather Channel. In this capacity, John set the long-term vision for The Weather Channel's information security strategy, policies and practices while planning for and responding to information security threats. In addition to his role managing security, John was also responsible for the Disaster Recover / Business Continuity program within TWC.From 2008 to 2013, John served as the Vice President of IT services and CISO for Transparent Technologies (TTIUS), a Cisco SP-Video Services partner. In this role, John has worked closely with many broadcasters to ensure their 24x7x365 needs are met in a secure manner.
