Managing a team responsible for Networks, i.e. Network Planning, Engineering and Implementation, meant that I had the responsibility for both strategic and detailed planning, design and implementation of our telecom network, sites and platforms in the Nordics. This included areas such as capacity planning and optimisation of network and nodes, investment/budget management and implementation of new technology and services including product development projects. My area of responsibility also included Carrier Management for the Nordics. This means that we were responsible for all commercial negotiations/agreements/settlements with other telecom operators/service providers with whom we needed to have network connectivity or services in order to fulfil our obligations or business objectives. This also included all relations with NRA’s (National Regulatory Authority) and competition authorities. I was part of an international European organisation, were the Nordics was one region

During this period, my title was Senior Manager, Voice Network Planning & Engineering Nordics. This meant that I managed a team with responsibility for the voice part of the network, including planning, optimisation and engineering. Together with our international engineering functions we developed and implemented new enhanced and intelligent voice services and platforms. I was also working close with our marketing and sales functions in the design and planning of new voice services and technology and special bids. I was part of an international European organisation, were the Nordics was one region.

Early 2000, it was on a European level decided to split out all Engineering activities from the Technical Operations units across Europe (se below). I was appointed to head up new the Nordic engineering team. This meant that I had the full responsibility for design, engineering and implementation of all network elements and platforms for Nordic networks, including new technology and services. I was part of an international European organisation, were my Nordic team was one region.

I was Technical Operations Manager for the Nordic voice operation and maintenance department. My responsibility included technical operations, support and maintenance for our voice network and platforms within the Nordic region. We also had technical support for all Ericsson related voice platforms in Europe. As a group we had to organize on-call 24 by 7, follow up of any performance related issues with vendors, plan and implement patches and upgrades, communicate any disturbance related issues with customers, network operation centers and customer support organizations. Within the group we also had responsibility for all network and capacity planning activities for the voice network, such as planning of ports, interconnects with other carriers and routing. We also had responsibility for databuild, i.e. system data for customers and interconnects. Another area was engineering, design and implementation of network nodes and voice services. Personally, in parallel with the responsibilities above, I had responsibility for Carrier Management activities during this period. I was employed as one of the very first persons in Sweden and together with my few colleagues in sales and marketing; we built up the company from the very start. This period was characterized by entrepreneurial atmosphere, were we had to set our own targets for the company and secure that they were being met. My first task was to manage the project to establish voice services in Sweden. This included installation of telephony systems, sites, product development, billing requirement, recruitment of personnel, processes and all interconnect agreements.

After my graduate in Master of Science, Electrical Engineering, I started as trainee at Ericsson in Stockholm in the autumn 1991. The purpose with the trainee program was to give a broad base to start build a career at Ericsson/telecom business. Areas such as organisation, leadership, project management, business administration and marketing were part of the training. After the trainee period I started at the Global Services Unit at Ericsson. My formal role was Operation and Maintenance Consultant. Our role was to create cost efficient and high quality operation and maintenance solutions for Ericsson’s customers (telecom operators). During my years at Ericsson I was involved in and managed several projects. These also included longer periods were I was based abroad for example in US, Norway and Italy.
