Following the shut-down of REC Wafer’s factories and Technology Centre in Norway I was asked to contribute for REC Wafer Singapore in transferring technology to Singapore. Part of a large R&D group developing a strongly improved furnace process for multi-crystalline silicon.

Part of a R&D group working on development of crystallization furnace process and hot zone design, including development and implementation of Mono-like crystallization process. Responsible for development of melting control in the Mono-like process. Also responsible for further development of the electro-magnetic stirring technology and patent monitoring in the furnace technology area.

Participating in several technical feasibility studies of alternative processes for producing solar grade silicon. Responsible for development of a process for synthesis of SiCl4, including the up-scaling from laboratory to industrial production (synthesis of SiCl4 is a process step in an alternative process for producing solar grade silicon).

Managing and participating in R&D projects on metal quality and recycling of magnesium at Hydro’s Mg plants in Norway and Canada, and at Meridian Lightweight Technologies Inc. (the largest Mg alloy customer) in Canada. Responsible for development of tools for quantitative measurement of inclusions in molten Mg and Mg alloys.

Managing and participating in R&D projects on refining of liquid silicon (Si) and ferrosilicon (FeSi), and process development for solar grade silicon. Responsible for development of a mathematical model for predicting and controlling the ladle refining process for molten Si and FeSi. The model was implemented and used extensively in Elkem’s Si and FeSi plants.
