CtoTransrail Sweden Ab May 2019 - PresentStockholm, SwedenBelow I have so far only shared my professional journey by my CV. I now turn to sum up my experiences so far from many years of developing the railways, from its basic technologies to its operation, economics and political strategies. More efficient operation has always been my focus. Based on my experience, I would highlight two issues for the future; the structural Swiss concept of Bahn2000 and digitalization of the operation:To me “Bahn2000” is a general concept for building and operating an attractive public transport system based on regular trains operating in a network and timed at the nodes for quick transfers. Coordinate traffic and infrastructure by the Bahn2000 concept into an efficient railway system!I have gradually found that digitalization is the way forward to meet many of the challenges of the railways. It stands clear to me that mathematical modeling and optimization, far from more traditional railroading, brings outstanding possibilities to improve traffic operation, sustainability, attractiveness and to reduce costs. Mathematics together with modern IT is a low cost and rapid way forward. Currently, no other technology has similar potential to create large and sustainable improvements of train operations, as well as in a short timeframe. Among other things this will make it possible to get more out of the legacy railway as well as its new investments! -
