After Working at the DSI for a year, I knew I wanted to do more for the space by helping maintain it, doing more outreach, and providing a better environment for those trying to learn, create, and socialize. As a training lead, I am able to find ways to improve our workshops and provide a better learning experience.

Assisted with maintaining DSI equipment, including 3D printer, Laser Cutters, and Cricut cutting. Provided any assistance to those who wanted to use the space by assisting them while using any of the machines, providing advice for a project, and maintaining a positive and welcoming environment. The DSI is a space for people to learn how to use any equipment we provide but the space can be very intimidating. When I first came to the DSI for an assignment I was terrified because I had never done anything like this but the person who taught me how to use the machine made sure to make me feel safe, confident, and welcomed. I wanted to provide the same experience to others.

CSSI is a 4-week introduction to computer science for rising college freshmen with a passion for technology - especially students who’ve been historically marginalized from the field.CSSI: Online is not your average virtual summer camp. It’s an intensive, interactive, and fun program that seeks to inspire the tech leaders and innovators of tomorrow by supporting the study of computer science, software engineering, and other closely related subjects.

Code Next is a program available to High schoolers. Code Next is a free, computer science education program that meets Black, Latinx, and Native+ high school students in their own communities, and provides the skills and inspiration they need for long and rewarding careers in computer science-related fields. Between 2011 and 2018, Black, Hispanic and Native American college students each only made up 3.5 percent of computer science graduates — Code Next plans to change that.
