Dit gebeurt in multidisciplinaire samenwerkingsverbanden en in samenwerking met andere domeinen. We staan in Nederland voor de enorme opgave om de gebouwde omgeving te verduurzamen. Op zo’n manier dat fysieke aspecten positief bijdragen aan een duurzame leefomgeving in brede zin, als een steeds veranderend open sociaal-technisch systeem, resulterend in een veerkrachtige samenleving. Maar het tempo van de transitie zal te laag zijn en de kosten te hoog als professionals niet breder gaan samenwerken: onderling, met gebruikers van gebouwen en met kennisinstellingen.Vanuit integrale praktijkgericht onderzoek benadering werken lectoraten van 14 hogescholen met built environment opleidingen samen binnen het Nationaal Lectorenplatform Gebouwde Omgeving (NL-GO):

Built Environment research is embedded within the Centre of Applied Research for Technical Innovation (a joint initiative involving all the engineering study programmes at Avans University of Applied Sciences) that aims to drive technical innovation for a more sustainable world. Its overarching theme is the Resilient City: a liveable, resilient and sustainable urban environment. Our practice-oriented research explores the relationship between humans and technology, and strives to achieve participating creation.

Integral Housing Plan for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, based on a jointly developed Roadmap; co-production of the Faculty, Facility Services and Real Estate. The main aim is realization and facilitation of a 'sustainable adaptable asset' that enhances efficient research & education, and 'creates space' for effective development of inter-/multidisciplinary strategies.

Primary focus on sustainable (re)development of Life & Natural Sciences buildings and laboratories at De Uithof / Utrecht Science Park, through active participation and co-creation.

Integral Design & Sustainable Development, Co-creation and -innovation in Dutch building sector as the main themes, with knowledge creation (R&D related to design&learning) as an important driver for innovation and skills development (as a part of 'life-long-learning').Specific subjects: continuous innovation, research design, integral design, organizational change and management consulting, new ways of collaboration (internally and externally), development of new sustainable products and services, innovative procurement, flexibility in construction, learning (through and on-the-job).
