I have a background in social sciences, working on urban development, development co-operation, social exclusion and especially since 2002, human rights, as researcher, teacher, consultant and as practitioner. Experience includes working on issues of human rights implementation, state-society relations, urban struggles and especially the right to health and HIV/AIDS. I have led a number of research projects and consultancy evaluations on these issues- not least a large multi-country evaluation spanning regional, national and local levels (for SIDA, Sweden), as well as acting either as leader or part of team on several others, most recently of a prominent Kenyan human rights organisation. I have published books, book chapters and international journal article publications- many on socio-economic and human rights in general. I have also been employed at Save the Children working as advisor on their Child Rights Governance thematic area. I lived and worked in Nairobi for four years until recently, and where I worked on projects centred upon one informal settlement in particular, Mathare Valley , in Nairobi, one of which I hope will be published as my first work of fiction.
