Congo (Drc)

1. I had the opportunity and also the rare experience of serving in one of the most complex United Nations peacekeeping mission in world, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ongoing conflict between various factions had ravaged the country. 2. The most unique experience I had was while extending protection to an IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp with roughly 4.5 lakh people inside and growing. To add to the challenges were desperate attempts by rebels and militia to attack the camp which were foiled and beaten back. The situation could have led to a humanitarian disaster with starvation, diseases, hygiene and sanitation problems abound. 3. No better example than this complex scenario which demonstrated high level of civil military coordination and crisis management in a highly complex multinational environment. While we dominated the area day and night for giving protection, the UN civil agencies and NGO's took care of the humanitarian aspects.

2. I cleared my Engineering as well as Medical exam. Since I was confused as to what I should join; I did 3 months of Engineering and then left for medical which I did only for a month. I guess my heart was for the Army, and so I joined National Defence Academy(NDA).I went on to win the Presidents Gold Medal( First in Order of Merit) in NDA and then passed out from Indian Military Academy with the Silver Medal.
