I have an unconventional background that mixes both not-for-profit as well as for-profit experience: I have worked in executive operations roles at several major media companies (The New Yorker, Hearst, Rolling Stone, ESPN/Disney) as well as the President's office at the Andrew W. Mellon foundation and as a Director of HR Development at The International Rescue Committee (IRC). I've sat on boards (six years for WNYC FM/AM Advisory Board) supervised large 40-person-teams, but I've also helped start new businesses and built teams from the ground up with little to no support or office resources.As managing editor, I have worked as a chief operating officer for content with oversight of assignment scheduling, legal issues, contract negotiations, performance metrics, HR, IT, strategy, financial planning and management, as well as the day-to-day responsibility for the editorial operations process that assures both accuracy and polish. I am comfortable in high-visibility, high-pressure environments, and I have managed teams covering a wide range of controversial topics for some of the world's most recognizable media outlets with audiences counted in millions.
