I have a wide experience in software, from low level programming to formal verification. I started with 8 bit home computers, and I still enjoy playing around with Arduinos. My biggest interest is in language implementations, operating systems, and other under the hood stuff. My first love was Lisp, and over the years I have worked with a variety of languages such as C, C++, Java, Ada, SML, Haskell, Scheme, Python, Javascript, and various assemblers.After getting my MSc at Tampere University of Technology, I stayed on teaching/research positions, and completed a PhD in computer science at the Software System Laboratory in TUT. The topic of the thesis was formal specification and verification of distributed systems using a theorem prover.After the formal stuff I was involved in a compiler project at the Digital and Computer System Laboratory in TUT. The project centered around a VLIW-like architecture with plenty of instruction level parallelism, targeted at low energy DSP applications. The idea is to use detailed knowledge about hardware and a parallelizing compiler to produce optimal algorithm implementations on very simple hardware.I then joined the MeeGo software development at Nokia, culminating in the N9 phone. I was mostly doing middleware work but I also took part in some Qt/QML activities. I also did some Linux performance related work for resource constrained devices.After the Linux based phone development was discontinued at Nokia, I received seed money from Nokia to start a company. I founded Kesanto Enterprises to develop a cloud based service for planning and keeping track of animal training. Unfortunately the product did not really catch on and the company ran out of money, so the company is presently hibernating.For the next six years of so I worked at Datactica as a software architect. I initially worked on various defence related projects, and then got involved in the Finnish government's digitalization effort. In addition to software development I ported a Docker based application from dedicated servers to hosted kubernetes in AWS using flux/gitops.In 2020 I finally got back together with my high school sweetheart, and now I am again writing beautiful Lisp programs, this time in Clojure at Solita.
