Mba
I graduated with a Master of Business Administration in March 2017.
Senior Media Adviser
My substantive role was currently Digital Strategist for the Department of Premier and Cabinet which involves bringing a new layer of innovation to Government announcements. I have also worked as a Senior Media Adviser to multiple ministerial portfolios including health, transport, tourism, and bring high-level negotiation and communication skills to a potentially fraught and stressful environment.
Principal Policy Adviser
After the 2013 State election, I moved from a media-focused role to a senior policy position that reflected my experience in WA’s public health system. In this role I work alongside the Minister for Health, Dr Kim Hames, to drive healthcare reform across the State. My role is primarily focussed on driving and coordinating matters relating to the commissioning of the $2billion Fiona Stanley Hospital, the $1.2billion Perth Children’s Hospital, and I am heavily involved in managing policies associated with the State Budget.

Media Adviser
Working as a media adviser for the Victorian roads authority, VicRoads, provided me with rare insight into working for a major Government department. As a member of the VicRoads busy media unit, I fielded daily media inquiries for major and controversial projects in regional Victoria and built relationships with journalists in the cutthroat world of Melbourne’s daily metropolitan media. I regularly dealt with reporters from the Herald Sun, Age, the Australian and metropolitan and regional broadcast media. I also oversaw the communications work carried out by VicRoads four regionally-based communications officers, who handled lower-level inquiries. The decision to work for a short time with VicRoads was a conscious one as I was keen to experience working in a media industry with more than one major metropolitan daily, as well as spend time in an interstate Government department.
Media Adviser
During my work with the peak body representing medical doctors, the Australian Medical Association (WA), I worked closely with Communications Director Barry Thornton to develop media strategies, write and distribute media releases and deal with both print and broadcast media. My role also entailed writing, sub-editing and taking photographs for the AMA(WA)’s monthly magazine, Medicus, and writing, editing and distributing a fortnightly electronic newsletter to more than 4000 subscribers.I used my multimedia skills to improve communication between the AMA(WA) and its members, resulting in an increase of readership to the Association’s e-Newsletter, and improved content on the website, as well as helping developing an online buying service.During my time, I worked closely with the AMA(WA) State President, Prof Geoff Dobb, and was often called upon to act as the State-based communications officer for the AMA Federal President at the time, Dr Rosanna Capolingua.
Journalist - The West Australian
I worked as a team with medical editor Cathy O’Leary to regularly break news in the health arena, both political and medical. Some of my stories resulted in changes to the WA health system, including an inquiry into Princess Margaret Hospital’s emergency department procedures. I sought, monitored and reported on health-related news in WA and worked to a tight daily deadline in a highly pressured and competitive environment. I also contributed to the various features sections of The West including Weekend Extra, IT, Today, U, Fresh, Travel Extra, Mind + Body and Health + Medicine.
Journalist - The Kalgoorlie Miner
At the Goldfield’s daily newspaper, the Kalgoorlie Miner, I worked primarily as a crime reporter, covering the activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs, as well as drug busts, car accidents, sieges and mining disasters. Some of my stories during this time received national attention and I was nominated for various awards for my work. I also wrote feature and travel articles, popular culture and cut my teeth in the world of daily news reporting.
