FLEXdata Solutions is an Australian System Integration company, helping organisations assess, plan, build, integrate, optimise, and support their mission-critical enterprise environments.My role at FLEXdata is as varied as the customers we help.One aspect is to design, deploy, and document infrastructure systems and key elements that go with data storage such as data backup policies and disaster recovery plans.A key element of deployment is often training and technical leadership, which can range from casual questions through to one-on-one, workshops, or writing operations manuals customised for the customer's environment and technical ability.We also offer a flexible managed service ranging from regular health checks through to full responsibility of the infrastructure systems. ● Day to day maintenance of two NetApp FAS3170s and one FAS2240-4 storage arrays● Day to day maintenance of two Dell Compellent SC8000s storage arrays● Maintenance of four Cisco SAN fabrics in two datacentres● Planning and implementation of a project to migrate all data from the NetApps to the Dell CompellentsKey Achievements:● Reduced storage latency issues on the NetApp arrays significantly through performance analysis and implementation of identified remediation steps● Technical advisor on a project to review and select new storage capable of supporting Flight Centre’s strategy and business growth for the next five years● Successfully migrated over 80% of Flight Centre’s data to date to Dell Compellent, including 1200 VMs and core Oracle and Sybase databases

• Responsible for the entire storage, backup, and Unix/Linux DB server infrastructure; maintaining and protecting over 500TB of data, on over 100 database servers and over 70 storage appliances• Responsible for ensuring PCI compliance in Unix/Linux DB servers and NetApp storage• Management of supplier relationships; primary point of contact for four key Infrastructure vendors; Symantec, NetApp, HDS, and Oracle hardware (formerly Sun). Also worked closely with RedHat and Dell• Project management of the team’s internal projects, to improve existing systems or implement new solutions• Architectural input and reviewing of all new hardware designs for all Infrastructure projects• Evaluation of new technologies (hardware and software) for suitability and value• Incident Manager – a 24x7 on-call role to co-ordinate major technical issues outside normal working hours, facilitating on-call engineers to resolve the crisis, while communicating updates to senior managementKey achievements:• 2010-2011, was lead planning manager of a project to migrate Betfair’s core production datacentre from London to Dublin. This involved co-ordinating over 50 Infrastructure, QA, and Development engineers to write and repeatedly review a 9 hour plan to migrate 70 applications and 7 databases, and then leading the plan during the outage, managing any problems that arose• 2009, was lead technical project manager for a year-long project to migrate Betfair’s key Oracle databases from 4-6 year old sparc platforms running Solaris 10 to commodity opteron hardware running RedHat ES 5. This project migrated 18 databases across 4 environments, was one of the riskiest undertaken in years due to the sensitivity and importance of the data, yet was completed on time with minimal issues. This project improved DB performance by an estimated 250% and reduced support costs by approximately 60%

• Installed, maintained and supported over 40 back end servers, on Solaris 9 and 10, RedHat ES4 and ES5 operating systems in a 24 x 7 environment, including out of hours on-call• Maintenance and support of clustered databases, clustered using VCS • Installed, maintained and supported over 30 NetApp filers, 2000/3000 series, connected via NAS and SAN• Administered backups and restores of all databases via Veritas NetBackup 5 and 6• Configured and administered monitoring via Nagios and Sitescope

Began as a junior Systems Adminstrator, learning then maintaining ~400 Solaris machines across Europe running the usual ISP software - email, news, web - and accompanying DotHill storage. Migration of ~120 servers to new datacentres in the UK along with a migration from Solaris 5-7 to Solaris 8.
