Developing features for a medical portal usng C# in an Azure environment

Java developer working on a suite of Springboot micro-services, running in a Docker/Kubernetes environment, in the field of cyber security.

Joined as a Java developer, however having spotted gaps in the support processes I requested a move to focus on development-support so that I could implement better processes and head towards an ITIL quality service. I have implemented a support dashboard which allows basic monitoring of some of the main processes so that I can be proactive in addressing issues before the business are aware.More recently working full time as a Java and PHP developer, working on internal systems, developing new features in Java and PHP, with test-driven-development approach.

Due to a decision to offshore much of the local IT teams to a new third-party supplier, I formed part of a team performing service-transition to a new offshore third-party supplier, which involved a three-week visit to Bangalore. Coaching new staff in both technical and business processes to ensure that the service would transfer with minimal impact to our business teams.I also personally redesigned and migrated an existing Lotus Notes application that I had previously built, into a Java/Spring MVC/SQL application, converting document-based database into relational data.

Java development within a project team utilising Spring MVC and web technologies with Agile/SCRUM processes delivering to a JBOSS environment. My former experience with Websphere services allowed me to bring these skills into the team as necessary and build appropriate development scripts and processes to blend with the development teams existing processes.My broad skill set was also utilised to assist with technical project-management duties, specifically to liaise with our third-party technical services provider, to ensure that all parties were following a consistent and realistic plan, and to ensure that there were no gaps in understanding. This was proven to have saved many misunderstandings and was key to delivering a successful project.A decision was made to decommission the Lotus Notes Domino service, I played a major role in ensuring all Aviva UK Health employees were successfully migrated to other services, including development of bespoke data-extraction code to ensure all Notes applications could be transferred to alternative technologies without loss of any vital business data.Outside of this main role I also enjoyed being involved in wider projects, such as a departmental 'Staff Panel', our training forum, and an Aviva-wide project "A Picture of Health" aimed at educating and improving awareness of mental-health issues such as stress/depression/anxiety in the workplace (see Projects section). I enjoyed these soft-skill duties as they fulfil desire in me to improve staff welfare and motivation, and also to improve leadership throughout the organisation.

Responsible for a team managing several high-value and critical Websphere Process Service integrated services between various technologies, including Siebel CRM, databases, legacy mainframe system and various internal and external web-services.While running the team I used my development skills to build many utilities and support applications to assist my team, and also reduce manual repetitive tasks. The main development was the “Business Service Dashboard”. This was initially developed to aid to the team with assessing business-user impact during service-outages, however it grew to become business critical within the larger IT department and is now used as main method of communicating service outages to the business and executive teams. I was presented with an award for this delivery.As a senior member of the IT department I was also mentoring other department members, and providing support and technical consultancy for initiatives within the company.

I was solely responsible for the concept, design and development of the company’s Intranet services. Requirements were that the system should be intuitive and, depending on security permissions, allow members of general staff to add information, without the need of a dedicated administrator. The automatic indexing and production of graphical-style organisation charts, using existing staff databases, ensures the system required negligible administration. The work I did on this project resulted in my peers awarding me as the first IT recipient of the company’s “Employee of the Month” award. This service remained in use for over 10 years with minimal application support required.I also setup a range of services for IBM Commonstore for Lotus Domino, primarily a product for archiving emails from Notes mailboxes, however with the use of DocBridge raster application and RightFax this served as a connection to IBM Content-Manager for incoming business email and fax. This also triggered activities in our Siebel CRM.

Was responsible for technical and business consultancy to a company-wide migration to a Windows NT environment from a former Netware based service. A good understanding of how the business operates, as well as both old and new technologies was required, as I represented Healthcare to the larger Norwich-Union group.

Designer and developer within a team using Visual-Basic Web-Class and COM technologies, using both XML and Oracle SQL data sources to deliver an online quoting service.

Technical support of desktop applications, including coaching of users with standard suite of applications, and maintenance and support of Netware based network on Token-Ring infrastructure. Also involved in various projects introducing new technologies and services, as well as writing a monitoring solution for our main services.

Lead a team of contractors rolling out new Pentium based systems, included secure transport of systems between sites, working in Whitehall environment, and ensuring all sensitive data was cleared from old systems to government standard.

Network manager of Southampton factory site. Included responsibility of ensuring Ethernet based network services to the manufacturing plant remained available. Also running of Token-Ring network to non-manufacturing departments, and ATM network switches integrating networks and uplinks to other sites.

Provided technical resource for several projects including addition of new remote site, and update to centrally-based configuration system that managed all desktop services across all sites.

Primarily network management, but this also extended to designing and rolling out a new standardised menu system across all PC's, and standardisation and merging of several departmental Novell Netware networks into a single corporate network. Also took responsibility for complex integration with X.25 district services onto the corporate network.

Started as a C programmer supporting and enhancing the "Lloyds-Link" electronic banking product, providing primarily corporate customers with online banking facilities using dial-up modems and smartcard security systems - a long time prior to the Internet offerings became available!Also provided sole support of departmental network services using Microsoft LAN-Manager network over new 10Base-T networks, and a link to central SNA-based networks. I was also responsible for backups and general support of a small Tandem mainframe.
