Work in the facilities planning, engineering and construction department for a contract research organization. Meet with research staff, understand their process and facility requirements, work with/manage a team to design laboratory and complete construction drawings, review contractor submittals, perform construction administration, oversee facility commissioning and start up. Depending on the nature of the construction project, I am required to perform design calculations and layout of HVAC and plumbing systems, review to ensure systems meet code, and evaluate systems/products/equipment for energy use/life cycle cost. Oversee creation of operation and maintenance manuals and interface with maintenance/operations team to ensure new facilities and modifications are constructed for long term, reliable and sustainable function. Types of projects include troubleshooting malfunctioning systems and advising on the modification/repurposing of existing systems. Areas of expertise include exhaust and ventilation systems for laboratories and office buildings, hazardous air filtration, chilled water systems, steam and heating systems, laboratory airflow control systems, and building control and monitoring systems. Required to understand integration with electrical, plumbing and sanitary, fuel oil, and lab gas systems as well as specialty lab equipment. Project sizes ranging from less than $10k to $97M and responsible for multiple projects at the same time with varying timelines and schedule requirements.

Worked in the equipment installation department responsible for storage, care and maintenance, inspection, assembly, and installation of all major equipment for a coal power plant construction project. Equipment included steam turbine, condenser, pumps, fans, motors, etc. Reviewed manufacturer submittals and install drawings, verified proper assembly and installation per specifications and drawings, required to have familiarity with overall plant flow and systems.
