Responsible for managing all aspects of quality, delivery, cost, personnel and facilities associated with diagnostic assay, device and biologics reagent manufacturing: Responsible for quality, delivery, cost, personnel and facilities for Lake County Site Operations to support Abbott’s overall Diagnostic business strategy at the Lake County site. Directs activities of key Managers/Directors across the Lake County Biologics organisation. Provides ultimate oversight for antibody & antigen manufacture, organic synthesis and polyclonal antibody production.Establishes annual goals and budgets and drives exceptional performance. Ensures that objectives for customer service, product quality, safety, budgets and productivity are achieved. Direct the development and implementation of long range strategies to deliver business continuity and continuous process improvements across all aspects of business performance. Drive innovative solutions throughout the business solutions.Delivers successful implementation of new product and process introductions according to schedules developed in conjunction with R&D.Promotes cross functional teamwork and establishes a high performing Site Leadership Team. Ensures adequate staffing of operational and technical personnel at all levels of the organization. Establishes aggressive talent management programs to ensure effective development and retention of key talent. Creates a positive employee relations climate by ensuring frequent, open and sensitive communications throughout the organization.

Responsible for providing leadership and management of all employees involved in Biological Reagent Operations. The primary objective of the role is to lead and manage the organisation to ensure it understands and fulfills the customer needs, providing high quality biologics fit for purpose, manufactured in a flexible, lean and globally collaborative environment with the technical expertise to simplify and improve processes on a continuous basis. The position is also directly involved in setting and communicating the strategic direction for the organisation in line with overall ADD Business strategy.

Biological reagent manufacture: defining, communicating and driving the strategic direction for the site in line with the overall Abbott & ADD business strategy.

• Scientific direction and strategy• Development of new manufacturing processes and test methods, continual improvement of existing processes, investigation of non-conformances, cost improvements and identification of future business development areas• Global transfer of new/existing products, processes and test methods both to and from the Dartford site• Global Purification Process Owner responsible for driving improvements within the ADD Global Purification Process

• Leadership and management of the Operations Department• Cell culture, Fermentation, Purification, Analytical Test Methods, Environmental Monitoring, Manufacturing Support Services and Engineering group responsible for the management and maintenance of the facilities, utilities and equipment• Site Generalist for FDA inspections• Transfer of new processes/test methods into Operations

• Leading and managing Operations through a major transition following divestment of 50% of the business• Cell culture, fermentation, purification, test methods, environmental monitoring• Significant reduction in manufacturing non-conformances• Building a lean and continuous improvement culture

• Scientific and Technical direction to resolve technical problems associated with biological reagent manufacture and testing.• Transfer of new products from US R&D to Dartford. Driving completion of actions in line with key milestones to support successful new product availability• Re-development of processes to enable cost and labour reduction through process improvement

• Leadership and management of the purification and analysis functions.• Transfer of 30 purification codes including all testing as part of the ATLAS program.• Design, commissioning and instigating a new biological manufacturing facility at Dartford

• Lead & Manage a team purifying and testing biological reagents for microplate assays

Lead research into the structure-function relationship for bacterial pore-forming toxins - 24 Scientific publications

• Provide expertise and contract research for Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry in the area of macromolecular hydrodynamics• Key techniques include analytical ultracentrifugation, light scattering, circular dichroism and viscometry
