BuehnerThese two quotes really connect with the core of what I strive to achieve in my professional and personal relationships; and after four years of teaching problem solving strategies at Bellevue College I've come to learn that humans and social networks are not thinking machines; rather, we are people who feel with the ability to think.One of the greatest challenges when working in high functioning teams is to remember to stay vigilant. We all carry biases and come from different worlds. A team is a cohesive ecosystem - with a culture all of its own. To prevent groupthink a highly functioning team must continue to communicate. Courageous conversations are ones that are risky and vulnerable and it allows for growth in ourselves and in our relationships. The teams that succeed are not afraid to speak their truth and receive feedback and then work through the hard bits. This is easier said than done and it makes all the difference when measuring performance. As an IT Director for over thirteen years; I learned to navigate the struggle to maintain strong relationships with the executive team; keeping an eye on the big picture and the business strategy of the company while also being the bellows for the IT department.
