As a member of the Java Embedded Services organization, I am involved in the productization and further development of "Internet of Things" technologies originally developed as part of my tenure with Sun/Oracle Labs. The product platform includes support for secure, encrypted communications over both long range (cellular/satellite) and personal area networking (802.15.4/bluetooth) technologies.As a researcher in the Labs, I was a member of the IOTA/SunSPOTs project, a Java based WSN platform, I was responsible for the design and development of the core networking components include GPRS, Satellite and wireless networking subsystems.I developed an IPv6/6lowpan implementation in Java for the SunSPOT embedded systems platform. Having completed much of the lower level protocol work, my efforts were then focused on efficient application protocols for resource constrained devices in conjunction with the IETF CoRE working group.

In a 14 1/2 year period with Sun Microsystems, I worked on a variety of advanced development and research projects. Some of these projects include:Project SunSPOT (Small Programable Object Technology)As the lead engineer for networking and protocols, I was responsible for re-architecting the original SunSPOT protocol stack. I designed and implemented a native Java IPv6 stack over an 802.15.4 MAC layer. I also managed interns and community members involved in a variety of research efforts including the design and coding of alternate routing protocols. Standards participation in IETF 6Lowpan, ROLL and CoRE working groups.Chief Networking Office: HPCSThe HPCS team designed a High Performance Computing System for a DARPA funded project. As network software lead, I worked with the I/O system hardware architect to analyze various alternatives for IP based networking (TCP and various congestion algorithms) for use in the HPCS reference design.Supernets – Secure networks over public infrastructureI was responsible for extending the Virtual Address Resolution Protocol (VARP) by implementing mappings for CIDR-style address blocks. I re-architected the administration server as a web based application using PHP & Postgres and contributed heavily to the design and delivery of the “Supernet appliance” – an embedded system.Java CarWorking with the Java Car team,investigated various network technologies to provide networking services within a mobile environment. Technologies included service location and shareable network devices on the in-car network. I managed and mentored students from Stanford's Student/Mentor program.Chief Technology Office: Netcentricity I led a team of 4 engineers to successfully demonstrate a VOIP server with RADIUS back-end. I designed and implemented a Service Location utility as a Java application. Participated in IETF development of Service Location Protocol (SLP) and related specifications.

SSDS was a provider of software development and consulting services. In 3 years with SDDS, I contributed to the company's average 50% yearly growth by delivering quality solutions to SSDS customers, as well as participating in many business development activities. I was responsible for generating new business leads, identifying and recruiting new talent and assisting with staff development.

I was a member of the Network Management Engineering Team.I designed and implemented User Interface and Installation solutions for the SunNet Manager product. I contributed to three successful product releases, as well as various GUI prototypes.

Starting as a lab assistant, I worked in the Computer Science Department until my graduation. Upon graduation, I was employed as Systems Manager for the CS Department. I was responsible for the management and support of the department's computing resources and a staff of 5-8 lab assistants. I managed the University Internet mail/Usenet/UUCP gateway and Ethernet LAN in multi-OS, multi-protocol environment of nearly 100 workstations and servers.
