Developed new ventures as a managing partner, and provided business and technology consulting to local and global clients, e.g., Suning USA as the Executive Consultant, Business Development.

Led product innovation and development initiatives, reported to CEO Vicky Tsai and connected Tatcha's timeless treasure of beauty rituals and sustainable modern technologies with clients' evolving desires for health, beauty and happiness. Helped the company redesign its 3-year product innovation pipeline, launched key new products including one of the 2017 NA market best seller Tatcha Water Cream, and built new external partnerships and internal business processes. Functioned as a company advisor and investor until the company's acquisition by Unilever in 2018.

Led Henkel’s sustainability initiatives in North America since 2008, covering important consumer brands in North America such as Dial, Purex, Renuzit, Persil, Schwarzkopf, and Right Guard. The responsibilities included delivering sustainability advantages through products and operation, building alliances with business partners, and engaging with consumers to develop sustainable consumption solutions. Drove collaborations among leading retailers, suppliers and NGOs to resolve critical issues across the business value chain. Made key contributions to Henkel's sustainability leadership, which was recognized by a number of significant awards and rankings from key business stakeholders.

A key contributor to the initiation and establishment of a new open innovation business model and process to engage with external partners.Focal point deal-broker in negotiating external technology acquisition agreements for Personal Care, and Laundry / Home Care business units.Leader of multi-functional Discovery Teams from different business units, including Personal Care, Air Care, Surface Cleaning, Insect Control and Laundry Care, for external technology identification, incubation, and transfer upon proof of principle into Stage Gate NPD process.Network developer of external innovation sources and technology acquisition portfolio in US, Europe, and Asia (especially in China) by linking in universities, entrepreneurs, and government agencies.Leader of the creation and incubation of many novel concepts from ideas to proof-of principle validation for Stage-Gate execution; utilized IDEO’s User Research and Learning Lab methodology in consumer studies in concepts screening process.

Leader of new product development and innovation for the Renuzit Air Care business unit, from concept formation, technology development to market launch. Responsible for technical innovation strategies and product pipeline to support short, mid and long-term business plans; closely interacted with the leaders from other functions - supply chain, purchasing, manufacturing, marketing, finance and sales teams in the stage gate environment. Managed external consulting and R&D budgets up to MM dollars per year.Team member of a corporate due diligence project in support of company M&A efforts.Responsible for developing and expanding Renuzit’s patent portfolio, product and technology analysis in competitive and adjacent areas; a leading inventor with more than 25 US patents granted in air care product design, formulation, packaging and engineering processes.Managed multiple internal staff and external contractors - e.g., well-known industrial design houses, technology vendors/start-ups, top university labs, and individual consultants in related and adjacent areas.

Worked in Unilever's US Research Lab's Personal Washing Formulation unit, responsible for the Enhanced Skin Benefits Platform for major products under global brand names of Dove and Lever 2000.Developer of novel skin cleansing bar and liquid formulations of superior skin mildness, moisturization, sun-screen and other consumer desired properties.Leading inventor of more than 20 US patented inventions of novel product formulations, and engineering processes.Coordinator of technology / material suppliers and clinical researchers, designed new testing protocols, and facilitated clinical and consumer trials.Key formulation technology liaison in support of a low cost personal care products for the India market, closely working with an international team from India. Technical leader in support of the corporate patent attorneys against a major IP litigation.Part of the core team for Dove and the initial launch of Lever 2000.

PhD research areas: phase behaviors, microstructures and interfacial properties of surfactant - polymer - colloidal systems in aqueous media; "novel" silicone surfactants in the early 90's; Small Angle X-ray and Neutron Scattering and other state of the art instrumental approaches.10 research papers published in J. of Physical Chemistry, Langmuir etc.
