As Principal Analyst in the Innovation Lab I work closely with product, sales, and operations teams to enhance our product offerings with statistical analysis and machine learning tools and features. The most rewarding aspects of this role are: - Contributing to product functionality and strategy discussions by clarifying goals, and advising where advanced analytics may be of assistance or where alternative paths may be preferred. - Researching, prototyping, and demonstrating analytical solutions to the product requirements.- Working with operational teams to facilitate delivery of the enhancements into the production environment. So far, I have presented Innovation Lab work at APAC and international conferences, and have been awarded a CEO Award for my creation of the “Cognitive Outliers” monthly machine learning and analytics academic paper reading group for Nasdaq employees around the globe.

An established private trading group had been trading the US Equities market and using algorithmic methods to model and bet on sporting outcomes up to 2013. They were looking to restart their business with a more institutional approach to their operations and modelling. My passion for analytics and history of working across varied functional areas in tech-companies was a perfect fit for this undertaking.Key Responsibilities+ Develop new prediction models and refine existing ones, and take them all the way to live execution.+ Support live trading operations through production of predictions, model adjustment, and troubleshooting.+ Develop and implement the technical infrastructure required to lay the foundations for the team to grow and minimise operational inefficiencies.Key Achievements+ Created, back-tested, prioritised, vetted, killed, kept, and ran in production many predictive models across multiple sports and markets, resulting in an average of 5% profit on turn-over in the first year.+ Developed a model “factory” that streamlined the process of taking an insight from idea to initial predictions and further refinement.+ Created a database structure that allowed any researcher in our team to add a new predictor variable to the system, have it processed appropriately, and made available for other researchers to use.

The number and sophistication of computerised trading systems operating in the Australian equities market had grown significantly over the decade to 2009. ASX Compliance was tasked with ensuring fair, orderly, and transparent operation of the marketplace, but lacked technology expertise. My technical background and knowledge of participant trading operations was thus the perfect complement to that team.

The Structured Products Group within the UBS Equity Derivatives business had grown its turnover tenfold in approximately three years. The existing technical infrastructure could no longer cope with the trading volumes, so the SURF loan management platform project was initiated to replace it. My role was to coordinate its implementation.

I was the technical analyst working to make a new UBS business a reality. We made UBS' trading and settlement infrastructure available to small and medium ASX trading participants for a fee.I worked with both business and IT areas from UBS, vendors (GBST and IRESS) and clients (potential and existing) to determine what they needed from the new business and document the resulting technical requirements. I planned and led the implementation of the required functionality in existing or new technology platforms, and developed the support procedures for the various elements of the new business, including on-going change and issue management.

The ICT Strategy and Analysis Section is responsible for performing research and producing assessments important to the formation of ICT policy.My central project and achievement was the conduct of a series of interviews with senior members of ICT organisations throughout Australia in order to better understand their views and experiences relating to ICT R&D. The case studies I authored as a result of this project were a valuable policy-informing resource that fed into a larger policy review.
