I started out in IT as a graduate programmer in the late 1980s with Co-Cam Computer Group, a software house specialising in financial services software. I moved to analyst/programmer and team leader of a small programming team at Co-Cam.My second role was as an analyst/programmer with boutique reinsurer Reinsurance Australia Corporation (Re AC). I was assigned development initiatives to perform over the whole lifecycle: analysis>requirements>development>testing>deployment. This gave me a good overall picture of the software development lifecycle. The last few years of my time at Re AC were devoted primarily to a systems replacement project, where we replaced the in-house system I had worked on with a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) package (SICS).My third and longest role was with mortgage broker Mortgage Choice. Whilst there, I moved between business analysis and software testing roles, moving out of programming. For most of my time at Mortgage Choice, I moved between the two roles as required, sometimes performing business analysis for a project, sometimes software testing. In that time, I was involved in the development, deployment and final decommissioning of several enterprise systems, as well as Requests for Proposal for several COTS packages. The last two major initiatives I was involved in at Mortgage Choice were i) the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, working on both the customisation of Dynamics for Mortgage Choice and the integration of Dynamics with Mortgage Choice's other systems ii) the development of Mortgage Choice's new in-house mortgage broking tool, Broker Platform.
