Lead Investor And NedCvs Group Ltd Jul 1999 - Jun 2007Diss, England, United KingdomCVS Group was the first consolidator of veterinary practices in the UK and the first to be backed from start up by venture capital / private equity. I lead this transaction while CEO at Sovereign Capital (previously Nash Sells & Partners). A commitment of £4.0m lead to a £80m+ gain, with multiple rounds of finance in a buy & build strategy. Over 34 practices were acquired, the business diversified and both the senior management and the board were "significantly upgraded" on the journey. The business floated at £134m and in November 2020 became a UK £ unicorn with a highest value so far of £2.0B (approx $2.7B); a twenty year journey. It is today, one of the biggest veterinary services groups in Europe. This deal was voted by the EVCA - European deal of the year when it floated.

Ceo / Managing Partner Then Continuing Founder Partner To Present.Sovereign Capital Jan 1999 - Oct 2005Lower mid market Private equity. CEO who owned, devised and led the complete rejuvenation and repositioning of the under-performing Nash Sells & Partners to create Sovereign Capital Partners LLP. (Nash Sells had absent and leaving partners disengaged from the business with the majority owner and then Chair spending the majority of his time on the golf course) I repositioned, rebranded, recruited a new team, devised a new business model & product, instigated new systems and new clearer transparency and reporting, changed the ownership structure and sorted the historic management overhang. Overall total re-focus allied to gargantuan cultural, positive energy and market change. Result = great (top decile) private equity returns!Today Sovereign manages some £900m and is arguably one of the leaders in mid-market service orientated investors in private equity buy & builds.Sovereign strongly focused on a buy & build consolidation model and operational improvements while directly approaching and targeting new carefully specified well researched companies with robust income characteristics in specific niches or sub-sectors, in what were very essentially required or longterm contracted products (thus support services) and partnering with them to expand through equity ownership. -
Non-Executive / Strategy AdvisorMotorcare Sep 1997 - Jan 1999Restructuring and fund raising followed by expansion and sale to a quoted Plc. Value rose form £0m to £36m in roughly 18 months when sold.
