In order to drive the adoption of substantially lower embodied carbon construction materials, the US EPA has been tasked with improving and standardizing embodied carbon reporting through EPDs. Here, I am focusing on several key construction materials (Asphalt, Concrete, Steel, and their related products) to further the adoption of EPDs while also working to standardize Product Category Rules. This will be aided by $250 Million that was allocated to the US EPA from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 to help fund various potential strategies by the use grants.

Reports to the Chief Of Science and Sustainable Construction within the Construction Management Division.-Quantified the embodied carbon of our key construction materials (Concrete, Asphalt, Steel) and I am currently working on Carbon Limits for those same materials to reduce the Embodied GHG emissions in our construction materials.-Led a team in onboarding, creating, and implementing a $200,000 third-party platform to calculate, store, and track key carbon metrics through construction materials, construction waste, and diesel emissions to align with agency goals of reducing emissions by 50%. -Determined goals for the agency’s Clean Construction initiatives to drive our local industry, as well as partnered with national groups to lead the way in terms of policy, data collection, and quantification of new KPIs.-Worked with a cross-functional team to lead the industry (regionally and nationally) in clean construction by implementing new clean construction specifications in our construction contracts that require data reporting to empower the agency to find ways to reduce CO2e.Oversees contractor submittals being sent in for review to facilitate a rapid turn-around within the constraints laid out by the Port Authority.-Tracks and performs data analytics on MEU submittals for senior management using an excel log that tracks the divisions’ KPIs for decision making by senior management.-Handles contractor submittals within the department to turn responses around within timelines set by the agency to ensure no delays occur within the field.-Successfully identified and streamlined issues within the larger submittal process to improve division efficiency and turnaround times while also identifying unnecessary actions to reduce costs.
