  Mr. Baril is a Senior Hydrologic Engineer specializing in hydrology, flood control analysis and design. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in the fields of dam safety and water resources engineering. He has specific experience in the areas of surface and groundwater hydrology and open channel hydraulics and is well versed in the use of the latest state of the practice computer applications including rainfall/runoff models, as well as hydraulic modeling of riverine systems and dam break simulations. Much of his project experience is focused in the areas of dam safety inspections, flood control, emergency action planning and design/improvement of spillways and related hydraulic structures. Since 1998, he served at a Principal-in-Charge capacity and led GZA’s Norwood Office’s Water Resources Team. Much of his work has included Dam Safety Investigatory Studies and remedial design repair projects as well as other water resource and water supply engineering-related assignments. After 30 years with GZA, Mr. Baril retired at the end of June 2019. Mr. Baril is currently an active, part-time Consultant for GZA. He is now a full-time resident in Niantic, CT. Mr. Baril has extensive experience in applying open channel hydraulic theory to practical problems in dam safety and flood control. Over the past several years, Mr. Baril has applied his experiences in dam safety engineering, drainage, and flood control as a subject matter expert/peer reviewer on a number of major dam rehabilitation projects for the New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection. He has also served on three Independent Expert Peer Review (IEPR) Panels, commissioned by Battelle, for US Corps of Engineers flood control projects in California and Louisiana.
