Primary skill and interest: inventing and leading development from prototype to production of innovative technical solutions for significant business problems.Early in my career I developed infrastructure for clinical informations systems. A company I founded, DataTree Inc., created a distributed-cache B+Tree data storage layer that was used extensively in healthcare and other applications. DataTree was acquired and its technology integrated into products by InterSystems Corporation which remains a dominant vendor in healthcare and other application domains today.More recently I worked on a petabyte-scale storage architecture at Iron Mountain Digital with goals of near-perfect durability (through geographically distributed copies), linearly scalable throughput and the ability to securely destroy digital assets. My team and I were awarded four patents for our work, three of which I wrote.At my most previous company Akiban Technologies we revisited many of the conceptual underpinnings of transactional relational databases. Among other innovations we designed a novel data storage organization that allows very efficient execution of joins. The foundation is a Java B+Tree library I wrote a few years ago and extensively revised while at Akiban.Recently I joined the Core Storage team at Twitter. I will be contributing to the design and development of a new highly scalable NoSQL storage system.
