In May 2022, the Volkswagen Group announced their plan to grow in America by investing in the revival of the iconic Scout brand and the design, development & manufacturing of all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs for American customers. To this end, a separate, independent company, Scout Motors, was established in the U.S.By combining an entrepreneurial spirit with the backing of the Volkswagen Group, Scout Motors will unveil its first prototypes in 2023 and begin production in 2026. The electrified Scout brand will build upon a new technical platform concept which delivers rugged credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio. Scout Motors’ products will combine credible capability, American authenticity, and new American innovation to win in the core of the U.S. market and to win the approval of its brand enthusiasts.
