Project Manager
Project Manager for outsourced product value stream, with an annual revenue of over $20Million . Initial duties were the transfer of a volume production line of complex electro-mechanical products to a third part partner. Since then, responsible for the day to day liaison with third party partners, issuing forecasts, NPI product introduction, Project plannning, inventory management, quality tracking and a number of other operational activities.
Lead Pcb Design Engineer
Leading the PCB design team since 2009 in producing layouts for control & AC/DC power circuitry for use in industrial drive applications from sub 1kW to over 200kW. Expert in PCB design for high power (Creepage & Clearance, high current thermal considerations). Boards range from Double layer, through hole components to 10 layer, double sided, high speed, high-density surface mount, HDI. PCBs are designed with a mixture of test solutions (Full nodal/Boundary scan etc). DFF/DFM is taken into account from the start, including direction through wave solder (ski & comb), selective wave solder, reflow, intrusive reflow, peelable resist and optimising PCB orientation within panels to minimise wastage, as well as copper/peelable balancing to reduce bow & twist. Close liaison with production, mechanical, and hardware engineers is maintained at all times. As Lead resource I am responsible for planning PCB project work and allocating resource. Responsible for the company transition to the Mentor Expedition Flow, from the Boardstation flow. This included defining procedures and methodology for creating company parts, schematic symbols, layouts and panels and recreating & rationalising the company libraries. Optimising integration with the Company MRP system and training staff how to use the tool. Solely responsible for the system administration of the toolset. Re-written the company PCB Fabrication spec to bring it up to date with current IPC standards and have an in-depth knowledge of how PCBs are constructed. Responsible for setting up a Design Variant process. Schematic capture, library maintenance and post processing, as well as assembly drawings are also a responsibility, and defining the standards for those drawings. I am the “go to” man for all aspects of PCB fabrication and design within the company.Recently I have seen my role expand in to engineering project management and engineering data management as part of a $30 million outsourcing project.

Pcb Design Engineer
Bought in to set up and maintain a PCB design service for the European operation. This included specifying software (PADS PowerPCB, Viewlogic), installation, creating and maintaining libraries and drafting PCB design guidelines. There was also a requirement to set up a link between PCB Design and the company MRP system, as well as specify and install a PCB prototyping tool.Layout was primarily for use in Bluetooth test equipment operating at 2.4GHz. Therefore most PCB design was for RF application. This included 50 ohm tracking, shielding tracks and cans (such as ‘Tecan’), extensive ground planing and working with assembly contractors to ensure they could cope with the sometimes ‘odd’ component placement that RF design requires. Digital circuitry was also a layout requirement. All schematic capture, manufacturing and fabrication drawings (assembly drawing, drilling details, BOM’s) were also my responsibility.
Pcb Design Engineer
Working within a 12 man Engineering group, with two PCB designers producing layout and schematic capture, using Pads Power PCB & Viewlogic, for Boards used in mobile communications. With most PCB’s operating at 2GHz, layout was done with all RF considerations. All schematic capture, post processing, and drawings were a responsibility, as well as library maintenance. I was also responsible for setting up a part database (Dx Databook) for use with schematic capture.
Draughtsman
Supplying PCB design and schematic capture, using VeriBest, Cadnetix & CADstar, as well as Mechanical drawings using Cimlinc, AutoCAD & Pro/Engineer, for the R&D department. Boards were used in a variety of applications, primarily fire and intruder alarms/control panels. Design for EMC compliance, test & manufacture applied in every case. Close liaison with Engineers and production was maintained to try and ensure a right first time approach. Boards ranged from single sided, single layer, to double sided multi-layer. All post processing and drawings were a responsibility. Mechanical draughting requirements included housings, mechanical assembly’s, labels and screens.I was responsible for the installation and system maintenance of the VeriBest design suite. As well as acting as System administrator for the department; solving hardware and software related problems, as well as specification.
Development Technician
Working within the company’s’ Microwave department. Producing small analogue and microwave components for use in military applications, such as filters, amplifiers, and also complete systems. Primarily RF layout, but also some digital. Using a variety of different substrates such as FR4, Die-clad & ceramic. All schematic capture was to BS3939 standard and all assemblies and mechanical drawings to BS308. I was designated as Production lead on several projects, which involved organising manufacture and test, environmental testing and approvals. I was also responsible for the groups purchasing requirements.
