Peter Braund has had over 50 years experience as a lawyer and as a mediator / arbitrator / umpire / adjudicator in dealing with various insurance and construction industry claims and disputes.Peter practiced law with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (formerly Borden & Elliot), Toronto office between 1969 and 2010 as a student, associate and partner. Throughout the course of his civil litigation career, he specialized in certain areas including insurance, product liability, construction, commercial, real property and contracts. Insurance / Construction cases intersected when giving opinions on Builder’s Risk, Wrap-Up Liability, Comprehensive Liability, Professional E & O policies, and when acting for insurers and their insureds including engineers, builders, contractors, owners, municipalities, developers, sub-contractors, material suppliers, product manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, installers, inspectors and maintenance companies.From November, 2010 to the present time, Peter has mediated and arbitrated with YorkStreet Dispute Resolution Group Inc., and with ADR Chambers since January, 2019. His cases have included many in the above described areas of his former law practice. Recent examples include a ten party mediation involving a condo corp. (plaintiff) and nine defendants – declarant; general contractor; architect; two engineering firms; product retailer; product installer; inspection company; and maintenance company. A second example was an arbitration between two adjoining commercial property owners who had a long history of sharing rights of way; physical plant, equipment and buildings; water sources; hydro; and operational and maintenance staff.Since the fall of 2012, Peter has sat as an Ontario Attorney- General’s appointee as a public member on the Complaints Committee of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (COC). The COC regularly deals with complaints made against engineers involved in construction projects and the construction industry. Peter has recently been elected as Vice-Chair of the COC.Since the fall of 2019, Peter has been certified as an adjudicator under ODACC (Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts).
