Peter is the Chairman of Chinachem Group Holdings Limited which is the parent company of the Chinachem property, hotel and real estate investment group. Peter is also one of the Chairmen of the Listing Review Committee of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, a non-executive independent director of The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and a member of the General Committee of The Hong Kong Club.Peter Brien was the Asian senior partner at Slaughter and May and has worked in Hong Kong and China since 1989.  Peter was also the Chairman of the Listing Committee of the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong until July 2022 after having joined the Listing Committee in 2015. Whilst Asian senior partner of Slaughter and May, Peter was responsible for driving the profitability and growth of the Asian practice and managing headcount and operations in Hong Kong and Beijing. Notable achievements include acting on the first PRC listings in Hong Kong and London; numerous IPOs; acting for the British government on the recapitalisation of British banks in the financial crisis; transformational business partnerships, corporate advisory and M&A for large multinationals including Tencent, Ineos Group, GE, Cable & Wireless, Prudential, Standard Chartered, MTR Corporation, Morgan Stanley and Swire. As Chairman of the Listing Committee, Peter was heavily involved in introducing important new regulatory chapters to the Hong Kong listing environment, including pre-revenue bio-tech listings and weighted voting rights.  Peter helped steer the Listing Committee in discussions with the Hong Kong government and the SFC in order to achieve a balance between public policy and maintaining Hong Kong as a vibrant financial centre.  Peter is listed as a Highly Regarded Lawyer in the IFLR1000 Asia Pacific 2022 for M&A, Capital Markets: Equity and Capital Markets: Debt in Hong Kong. He is named in the 2022 Legal 500 Asia Pacific Hall of Fame for Corporate (including M&A) in Hong Kong. He is also listed as an expert in the International Who’s Who Legal 2020 for Capital Markets: Structured Finance in Hong Kong.As well as having taken on a number of mentoring and charitable assignments, Peter was also for some years chairman of the board of trustees of Inspire!, a London charity whose purpose is to assist underprivileged children in completing their education and moving into full time employment.
