For over 25 years, Peter Brosens (EAVE 1995) has been an independent film writer, director and producer. His films have accumulated over 400 festival selections and won 75 awards, including top awards for both fiction (2006 Venice 'Lion of the Future') and non-fiction (1998 Nyon Visions du Réel 'Grand Prix'). Since 2006 he wrote, directed and produced five feature films with Jessica Woodworth: THE BAREFOOT EMPEROR (2019 Toronto IFF), KING OF THE BELGIANS (2016 Venice Film Festival), THE FIFTH SEASON (2012 Venice Film Festival), ALTIPLANO (2009 Cannes Critics' Week) and KHADAK (2006 Venice Film Festival). Between 1993 and 1999 he produced and co-directed his internationally acclaimed ‘Mongolia Trilogy’ (CITY OF THE STEPPES, STATE OF DOGS & POETS OF MONGOLIA). Peter is currently producing Jessica Woodworth's feature FORTRESS, a Belgian-Italian-Dutch-Bulgarian-Armenian co-production inspired by Dino Buzzati's masterpiece 'The Tartar Steppe'.Peter was a member of several festival juries, incl. IDFA, Sao Paulo, Zagreb and Odessa (President). He is an EFA-member and since 1996 the Belgian member of d.net, a European network of independent producers. In 2017 Peter received the prestigious 'Polar Star Award' - the highest distinction for a non-citizen - from the President of Mongolia.
